Al Dadario
Al Dadario has been a special education teacher and coach at Avon High School for the past 26 years. As the head girls Cross-Country coach, the assistant indoor track coach and the head girls outdoor track coach, Al has had a hugely successful coaching career at AHS. His girls XC teams have won 4 state championships, have been runner-up for 2 seasons, and placed 2nd at the state open meet in 2012. The team also placed 15th in the New England Championships that same year. He has coached 2 state championships in girl's track and was runner-up in another season. He was awarded the girls' CHSCA XC coach of the year in 2012, the Northeast girl's XC coach of the year in 2017 and was nominated for National coach of the year in 2017. He was inducted into the CHSCA Hall Of Fame in 2017 and was inducted into the Middletown Hall Of Fame in 2012 as a member of the 1971 Xavier state championship football team who went undefeated that season.

Lisa Abate
Lisa Abate grew up in the Avon community attending RBS, AMS and graduating from AHS. As a child, Lisa was one of a few girls that played on the first Avon Soccer Club team, which was coed. Lisa played on the first AHS Girls’ Varsity Soccer team in 1984. In addition to soccer, Lisa competed on the AHS Varsity Field Hockey, Gymnastics and Track teams. In Lisa’s senior year, she was captain of the track and soccer teams. She coached soccer, track and swimming at
former school systems and was an assistant coach for an Avon Soccer Club team. Since 2005, Lisa has been a Wellness teacher in Avon. Her husband Glenn, and two children, have also been student-athletes in the Avon school system. -
John McLaughlin
John McLaughlin is a 1989 graduate of Avon High School and was a member of the football, wrestling and track teams. As a wrestler, John became a two-time state champion and was the first wrestler from Avon High School to place in the New England Championships finishing third. Now in his 21st year of teaching at Avon High School, John has been coaching wrestling since 1996 and has been the head coach since 1998. John has more than 400 career wins and is ranked No. 9 all time in wins in Connecticut. His teams have won 13 conference championships and the Class “M” state championships in 2023. He has also coached football, lacrosse and track at Avon High.

Dave Zlatin
David Zlatin has been a science teacher at Avon High School since 2004. He has coached the boys soccer team for 20 seasons and has been Varsity coach since 2013. His team was Class L State Champion in 2014 and 2015. The 2015 team was also the CCC Central League Champion. He has coached six All State athletes and one All American athlete. David has also coached outdoor track for 19 seasons and has been the Boys Head Coach since 2015. In that time, the boys team has four top ten finishes at the Class MM state meet, including two top 5 finishes. He has also coached indoor track at AHS.
Prior to Avon, David won 12 Varsity letters in four years at Windham High School (CT). He was All Conference in soccer and was part of the 1996 Class MM state champion boys track team. He competed at the New England Championship meet in 1995 and 1996. David was awarded as Windham's CIAC Scholar Athlete of the Year in 1998. -
Susan Rietano Davey
Susan Rietano Davey and husband Bob have lived in Avon for over 30 years; they raised four children (Tucker, Jackson, Hannah and Luke) here - all recent AHS student-athletes. Among Susan’s many community roles: she was a longtime coach for Avon Soccer Club; sat on the Avon Booster Club board for 9 years and was president for two; and was past-president of the AHS PTO and active member in other PTO’s. For over a decade, Susan has been teen music director at St. Ann’s Church and Vice-President of the Avon Land Trust, under which she founded and still leads Avon’s outdoor learning initiative, The Unplugged Learning Project. As president of the non-profit ACORN, Inc., Susan recently led the Lights on Avon campaign which brought lights to Avon High School's new turf field. A longtime Falcon fan, Susan is co-founder/owner of the global learning and consulting firm, Prepare to Launch, LLC.

Don Papio
Don Papio graduated Avon High School in 2001. In his three years at Avon High School Don received nine varsity letters and was captain of the football, wrestling and track and field teams. Don was a two-time conference champion, state finalist and academic all-state for the wrestling team. He was also conference champion for javelin in Track and field as well as academic all-conference in football during his senior year. After graduating Don has coached football, wrestling and baseball at various levels and helped coach two state champions and one state open finalist in wrestling. Don is a member of the local community and he and his wife spend most of their free time on weeknights and weekends attending sporting events for their three children.

Suzanne Lancaster
Suzanne Lancaster is a 1989 graduate of Avon High School. Growing up in Avon she played on travel soccer teams. In high school, she was a member and senior captain of the cross country, swim and track teams. She was a member of the 1985 cross country team that won the State Open Championship. Suzanne was All-State in both cross country and track. At UConn, she participated in Division 1 varsity cross country, indoor and outdoor track. Suzanne and her husband raised three children in Avon, and she is currently a kindergarten teacher in Canton.

Jim Murray
Jim Murray was Mathematics teacher at Avon High School from 1981 to 2018. He was the head coach the Girls’ Soccer team from 1986 to 2023. His teams won state champions 5 times and were runner up 5 times. His teams have also won 7 conference titles. He has 464 wins as the girls’ coach. He was named the Connecticut High School Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 1993 and the Connecticut Girls’ Soccer Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 2002 and 2011. In 2009 he was named National Coach of the Year by National High School Coaches Association. Jim has served on the state girls’ soccer committees for the CIAC and the CHSCA. He as been on the Executive Board for the CGSCA for over 30 years and is currently their Executive Director. In addition, Jim has been the head coach of the Ultimate Frisbee team at Avon High School from 2012 to 2024, winning a Division 2 State Championship in 2015. He has also been an assistant boys’ track coach, an assistant girls’ track coach, an assistant boys’ soccer coach, and an assistant boys’ basketball coach at Avon High.
