Brian Brown
In a program that has dominated the soccer pitch for decades, superlatives are seldom doled out and rarely claimed. But 2025 Falcons Hall of Fame winner Brian Brown, one of the greatest players Avon has ever produced, has earned his – and claims it tonight.
In 1988, as a junior, Brian earned All-Conference honors and scored 10 goals for the Class M State Championship team – a team that finished 20-0 and was ranked #2 in America. During his senior season the next year, Brian scored 27 goals as the team went 19-1 and won another Class M championship. A reliable points-man, he scored in every round of the state playoffs. In the post-season, Brian was named to the All-Conference, AllState, All-New England, and All-American teams. He was selected as the Connecticut State Player of the Year by the New Haven Register and by Gatorade. Later, he was chosen as the Regional Player of the Year across eight states and was a finalist for the National Soccer Player of the Year – the only Avon player to achieve such recognition, ever.
Avon Boys Soccer has had countless successful runs and produced many regional stars and Division 1 athletes, but Brian’s performance in his senior season rendered him the most decorated boys soccer player in school history. This honor stands 26 years later.
After Avon High School, Brian continued his playing career at the University of Pennsylvania. Despite two ACL tears and resulting surgeries, he was able to play three full seasons for the Quakers. After graduating, Brian played one season with the Cape Cod Crusaders, a USISL league that was a pre-cursor league to the MLS. Upon finishing that season, he moved to the Bay Area where he has lived and worked for 34 years.
Brian is married to Kate Barrows Brown, a 1991 AHS alumni. The couple lives in Alameda, CA with their two boys, Xander (11) and Mitch (9) who benefit from their dad’s skillful coaching. Decades after his years playing at Fisher Meadows, Brian still gets out on the pitch for adult league play as often as he can.
