Kevin Gormley
While attending Avon High School, Kevin Gormley found success playing football and basketball for the Falcons, but his exploits on the baseball diamond stood out and provided him with the foundation for a career leading young men who share his passion for the game.
Kevin’s junior and senior seasons for the Falcon football team were hugely successful as he quarterbacked the team to consecutive conference championships while earning All-Conference honors for himself. His senior year of basketball resulted in similar levels of success: Kevin was selected as a captain, the team set a school record for wins in a season with 23 while winning the conference title, and Kevin was named an All Conference performer in his second sport.
It was baseball, however, where Kevin really distinguished himself among his peers. During Kevin’s final 2 seasons in a Falcon uniform, he won 17 games on the mound, striking out nearly 250 batters over that span including a senior season that saw him go 9-0 with a microscopic ERA of .11! Kevin’s standout performances earned him All-State honors both years and provided him with the opportunity to continue his baseball career at the University of Connecticut. While there, the program found consistent success: He and the team advanced to the NCAA regionals in 1993 and 1994 while also winning a Big East title in the 1993 season.
Kevin’s passion for the game and the exposure he had to some amazing coaches and teachers influenced him enough to make a career of it. For the last 24 years, Kevin has taught business at North Kingstown High School in Rhode Island while finding the highest levels of success with their baseball program. During 2 different stints at the school, Kevin has impacted hundreds of young men as he led his teams to 284 wins over 15 years as their head coach, winning 10 Division 1 South titles and 2 State Championships. As a result of his success and the inspiration he has provided to so many, he has been awarded membership in the North Kingstown Hall of Fame, the Rhode Island Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame, and in 2021 was named the National High School Coach of the year for Rhode Island.
Kevin still resides in North Kingstown with his wife Jen, daughter Meghan, and son TJ.
