William Loeffler
Everyone attending Avon High School is encouraged to take advantage of the opportunities presented to them, and William Loeffler fully embraced all of them! As a 3-season, 3-sport athlete, William found year round success during his Falcon tenure excelling on the football field, the basketball court, and the baseball diamond, earning the respect of his teammates, classmates, and those he competed against. William’s talent was only matched by his willingness to lead by example, and he was selected to be a captain in each of the sports he played.
On the football field, he received All-Conference accolades in both his junior and senior seasons, with AllState recognition during his senior year when he averaged over 10 yards per carry as a running back. Included in his highlights from that season was a single game total of 259 yards rushing on only 16 carries when the Falcons won against Housatonic; a performance that capped a senior season that saw William earn a place in the Nutmeg Bowl, the annual All-Star game held for the best high school players statewide.
While competing on the basketball court, William found both individual and team success, notably in his senior season when, as a captain, he helped lead the team to win the league championship. He set a then school record by scoring 36 points in a single game, including making 22 of 22 foul shots that night.
Once the Spring rolled around, baseball provided another challenge that William welcomed. In his senior season he was selected All-Conference as the team’s shortstop. In a season of highlights, none were more important than when William delivered a two-out hit in the State Championship game, knocking in all 3 runs as Avon prevailed 3-1 and won a title with his fellow Falcons.
State championships in both football and baseball his senior season did not satisfy his thirst to compete, and William went on to Bowdoin College where he played both varsity football and lacrosse, overcoming a torn ACL his freshman year to rejoin both teams for the balance of his college career.
William still enjoys playing tennis and golf today as well as skiing and surfing, the latter 2 sports providing him the chance to travel and experience destinations all over the world.
