Caroline Schaefer
Over the four years Caroline Schaefer (2014) played on Avon’s field hockey team, it was the North Central Connecticut Conference champion three times and Class M state semifinalist twice – in 2012 and 2013. A dominant individual player, Caroline earned All-Conference, All-State, and Regional All-American honors two times, and served as captain her senior year.
In the “off” season, Caroline played basketball (for two seasons) in the winter, and lacrosse in the spring; she was appreciated by her teammates for her tireless work ethic and generosity as a player. After Avon, Caroline headed off to Colgate University where she was recruited to play on their Division I Field Hockey team. There, she was recognized as Midfielder of the Year by her team in 2015 as a sophomore and voted captain for her senior year in 2017. She was a three-time NFHCA National Academic Squad honoree, four-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member, and four-time Raider Academic Honor Roll member.
Upon graduation, Caroline returned to Avon High School to coach the field hockey developmental team for three seasons, from 2018 to 2020. Her players say she “led with example” and showed them “what it means to be an athlete.” If the players had to run sprints, she would be on the line with them – and then outrun them all while giving encouragement. She helped coach the JV team to an undefeated season in 2020. In recognition of her accomplishments as high school player and coach, Caroline was inducted into the Connecticut Field Hockey Hall of Fame in 2024. She currently she resides in Brooklyn and works in the jewelry industry, both creating and selling pieces. When she’s not at work, Caroline enjoys exploring the city, going to museums and galleries, and hanging out with friends.
